Monsoon-Proof Your Car: The Essential Pre-Rains Checklist for 2026

Monsoon is here, and Indian roads transform overnight — waterlogged streets, poor visibility, slippery tarmac. A little prep now saves you from a flooded engine or a skid on a wet highway. Here's your no-fuss monsoon-readiness guide.

Visibility is everything

Replace wiper blades if they're leaving streaks — most blades last about a year. Check that your defogger (rear and front AC vent) works properly. Apply a water-repellent coating like Rain-X to your windshield; it makes a dramatic difference at highway speeds in heavy rain.

Tyres & brakes — your lifeline on wet roads

Worn tyres on wet tarmac are dangerous. The legal minimum tread depth is 1.6mm, but go for at least 3mm heading into monsoon. Check tyre pressure weekly — under-inflated tyres aquaplane far more easily. While you're at it, get brake pads inspected; wet braking distances are 30–40% longer than dry.

Protect the cabin & electronics

Seal any rubber door strips that have dried out or cracked. Check under the floor mats for moisture — a small leak left unchecked causes rust and mould in weeks. Apply a coat of underbody anti-rust sealant if the car is more than 3 years old. For EVs, ensure the battery pack's IP rating is intact and charge port covers are undamaged.
